Viewing Cardiograph Metrics & Configuring Alarms

  • Login to AWS using Gmail SSO
  • Within the AWS Console, click the services dropdown and search for Cloudwatch
  • Within the CloudWatch UI, select Metrics on the left hand side
  • Select the required client namespace (All customer metrics are stored under a unique identifier instead of a company name, the correct unique id can be found in [https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ETqMtMlqalYkg-R5JD08JY0yefLDO-iuzhDs7wCeLwI/edit#gid=925427689](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ETqMtMlqalYkg-R5JD08JY0yefLDO-iuzhDs7wCeLwI/edit#gid=925427689))
  • Once the required customer has been selected, navigate down through the hierarchy until you find the list of all metrics
  • Check the box next to the metric you want to look at
  • Switch to the 'Graphed Metrics' tab and change the 'Statistic' (SUM is normally the best one) and Period dropdowns to view the data in different ways
  • Once you've found a metric you would like to alarm on, press the alarm icon in the action section
  • There are quite a few configuration options to be aware ofPeriod - Over what period should Cardiograph aggregate the metric data. For example, if you selected SUM and a period of 1 hour it would SUM all the data up over the last hour
  • Threshold type - Static allows you to specify a fixed number (SUM > 1) and anomaly detection uses the AWS in-build ML based monitoring
  • Under additional configuration you can specify the number of data points. So if you specified 3 out of 4, the alarm would only fire if 3 out of the last 4 hours broke the criteria
  • Press next
  • In the configuration of the action, you can specify what happens when the alarm fires. You can specify multiple. The important notification endpoints are:Cardiograph Tier 1 Alarm Prod (Slack notification)
  • Cardiograph Tier 2 Alarm Prod (Slack notification)
  • Cardiograph Tier 3 Alarm Prod (Slack notification)
  • Cardiograph Email Notification  Alarm Prod (Send Email)
  • cardiograph-support-notification-alarm-prod (Raise a support ticket in Freshdesk)
  • Press next
  • In the alarm, the name uses the convention clientname_**alarmname. You can also add _businesshours on the end so that the alarm is only online in MON-FRI during working hours. E.g. millbrookhealth_foldermonitor_businesshours
  • You can leave the description empty, however, the description is what is posted into the Slack channel so it is useful. Also, if using the Email Notification alarm the email to and contents are configuring here. Specify the below options on a new line:to: specify the new addresses
  • content: the content of the email body
